SPALATO
situated on the Adriatic coast of central Dalmatia, in the Marjan peninsula, Split is the biggest city of the region. The more ancient core of the city lies within the walls of the Diocletian Palace, while the Marjan hill stands out in the west part of the city. Entirely covered with a thick wood, the hill is the ideal place for walks and the most varied activities, such as free climbing exercises. The peninsula is surrounded by the isles of Brač, Hvar, Šolta and Čiovo. Split dues its origin to the Roman emperor Diocletian who chose the city to build the famous Palace between 295 and 305. Today the entire estate is declared by UNESCO world heritage site.
